Emitron 3 Inch Image Orthicon tube

Emitron 3 Inch Image Orthicon tube

This is an early tube by EMI of Ruislip Middlesex, it was on display at the National Museum of Scotland (Edinburgh) and believed to be in store there.

The label associated with this picture, (not shown) says c. 1945 but this is too early. A more realistic date would be about 1947-8. EMI were more interested in their own design of the CPS Emitron tube.

It is possible that this tube was a re-branded RCA tube and if this is the case 1945 could be possible. EMI did not market a camera using Image Orthicons until the EMI 203 in 1960.
