Pye (TVT) Camera Model Numbers for Broadcast & CCTV

Over the years the numbering scheme changed. Very early cameras were called after the tube type eg. "Photicon", later there were 4 digit numbers, then came the prefix 84 for broadcast. This "84" prefix was sometimes omitted. When Pye was taken over by Philips the "LDM" series of numbers were added.

(1) Notes: Dates are tricky!, do you take the design date or the date entered service? It's all a bit vague.

"I.O." is the abbreviation for Image Orthicon, a large camera tube in 3 inch and 4.5 inch sizes.
"Plumbicon" is a registered trade mark of Philips, as well as being a Lead Oxide camera tube!
The Photicon and Pesticon were both pye tubes and are midget developments of the image iconoscope tube.
"Staticon" was the name Pye used for the vidicon tube. Early tubes had a "side pip" vacuum seal.
