early Monoscope tube

This is an early Cathodeon "Monicon tube"

Early tubes came in a variety of shapes and sizes, but in the UK & USA they soon settled down into a tube that was dimensionally similar to a standard 5 inch round tube of the sort often used in camera viewfinders of that period.

The operational principles are the same as the later shaped tubes.

"A New Picture Signal Generator" tube was reported in Electronic Engineering, June 1946 page 178 describing this Monoscope tube. 800 Lines of resolution was claimed and the price quoted was £30.00
