The light splitter analyses the incoming light into the three primary colours, deflecting each colour to the lead oxide camera tube. You can just see the patch of blue light on the right hand blanking plate and the red reflected back through the splitter block. The light came from the photographic cameras flash. The Light Splitter was sometimes called an "Ice Block".
